Chinese Classic Scented Teas
Most people are aware that China has a long history of tea drinking and tea production. But you might not be aware that they are also one of the first countries to have flavored teas with different ingredients.
According to “The Story of Tea, A Cultural History and Drinking Guide” by Mary Lou and Robert J Heiss, Chinese Classic Scented Teas have been present since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Floral blossoms of chrysanthemum, gardenia, jasmine, osthmanthus, rose and yulan(magnolia) are well known and very popular. Later, in the Qing dynasty (1644-1912), fruit flavors of bergamot(orange), lichee, and pomelo were introduced. All these flavors are now considered Chinese Classic Scented Teas.
Of course today there are hundreds of different flavored teas, whether they are black, green, oolong or white. However, the Chinese Classic Scented Teas remain through the ages as some of the most popular flavored teas today.
Trenton Teas carries several Chinese Classic Scented Teas for your tea drinking pleasure. Our Rose Tea is a modern version of the classic Chinese scented Meigui Hongcha, made by layering red rose petals and tea leaves during production, then sieving out the petals. The result is a sweet full taste of rose petals in a fine black tea. Try this tea with or without a small amount of cream or milk.
Our Lichee Tea is a version of the Chinese scented Lihi Honcha, made by spraying the tea leaves with fresh squeezed juice of ripe Lichees after production. This creates a black tea with a pleasant fruity flavor that allows the flavor of the Keemun to shine through.
And our Jasmine Pearls – Dragon Phoenix is a Chinese scented tea where tender green tea leaves are scented with Jasmine Spring Blossoms and hand rolled into balls. The result is a heavenly floral Jasmine fragrance in this green tea.
Try one of these delicious Chinese Classic Scented Teas at Trenton Teas today, and as you savor your cup, you will be transported back into the history of tea!
Turkish Apple Tea is a traditional popular drink in Turkey that is finding increased popularity worldwide. In Turkey, teas of all kinds are the most consumed beverages, even more so than the famed “Turkish coffee”.
Also known as Elma Cay, Turkish Apple Tea has a delicious, sweet apple taste made with apples, oranges and spices. It is a Fruit Tea, or a tisane, meaning no tea leaves are used. People love to brew it steaming hot during the winter and served over ice in the summer.
In Turkey, Turkish Apple Tea is brewed Samovar-style. This unique method of brewing is done by placing two special pots on top of each other. A small teapot containing the fruit tea ingredients with water is placed on top of a larger pot containing boiling water. The Turks enhance the flavor of their Apple Tea with sugar cubes or sweetener such as honey before serving. They often blend in blackberry leaves, hibiscus flowers and lemon for a more complex flavor profile.
Trenton Teas Turkish Apple Tea is a Fruit Tea blend of sweet apple pieces and pineapple. Like the traditional Turkish Apple tea, there is no caffeine, and our tea can be enjoyed any time of the day or night. Our Tea is also low in acid. Try Trenton Teas Turkish Apple Tea this summer for an iced tea treat!
